How to use airtight zippers

Instructions for Using and Maintaining Airtight Zipper

No matter for what you choose our airtight zipper, once you choose it, maintenance is required. Airtight zipper is an exact metal set, so it should be kept well in a clean and lubricative state as well as it has a strict criterion for operation and maintenance. The proper operation and good maintenance will ensure that the airtight zipper can be used for a long time. For a dry divingde, its use life even is longer than the things on knee, elbow and joints. Foreign data indicates that the proper use will guarantee the airtight zipper more than eight years life-span. But there are also some cases proving that the improper use will shorten the life of airtight zipper to less than three months. It is obvious that the proper use and maintenance are so important to airtight zipper and its products.

Fixing instructions of airtight zipper:

? The zipper shall be fixed after laying off products. During the fixing, two belts shall be straight.

? When fixing the zipper, gumwater cannot be smeared on inner rack rail or outer rack rail. Otherwise, the gasproof of airtight zipper will be broken or the zipper will be damaged for it is astringent when zipping it. If gumwater is smeared on the zipper immodestly, use a soft cloth with thinner to clean off the gumwater.

Using instructions of airtight zipper:

? Before using the zipper, please use clean water or brush to clean off the dust or bedload attaching on two sides of the zipper, because these adhesive materials will influence gasproof of the zipper and even damage the zipper.

? When zipping the zipper, you must zip the pull head along the rack rail. If you zip it slanting, the rack rails will not in anastomosis with each other, then the gasproof will be reduced, and the zipper may even be damaged.

? Zipping velocity shall be controlled within 10-15m/min. Dont zip it again and again for a long time, in order to avoid the pull head being euthermic which will lead it to be astringent or be damaged.

? If clothes or cloth lock the zipper, you should zip the pull head back a little, and remove the things, then zip it slowing. Be sure to keep in mind that dont pull it rudely, or the zipper will be damaged.

? If the zipper is fixed on the back or the flank of the clothes, you must zip it with others assistance.

? After using the zipper, you shall use clean water or brush to clean off the dust or bedload attaching on two sides of the zipper, then open the zipper, and clean the inside. Try your best to avoid feculency entering inner rack rail, which will reduce gasproof or damage the zipper.

? After using and cleaning the zipper, you shall smear the beeswax on outer rack rail, and zip it back and forth for several times to ensure that the zipper is lubricative next time. But the beeswax only can be smeared on outer rack rail, if you smear it on inner rack rail, the gasproof will be reduced.

? If airtight zipper you need is more than four meters, we advise you adopt double pull head to avoid superfluous abrasion.

? When using PVC airtight zipper, please dont use it if the environment temperature is under 10? or higher than 40?. Because under that temperature, the character of PVC will be changed and gas proof will be reduced even it is will be non-hermetic.

? For polyvinyl chloride in contained in the zipper, the character of PVC airtight zipper will be reduced with change of time and temperature.

Preservation instructions of airtight zipper:

? For the airtight zipper in store, you shall keep it be open in shady and cool area.

? For the airtight zipper is stored for a long time, you should keep it in a close case far away from ventilated area to avoid the rock rail being oxidized and changing color.

? After fixing airtight zipper on the clothes or other products, under non-working state, you shall keep the zipper be open with wax in shady and cool area.

? When packing the clothes, you can roll up the clothes along the end of zipper and leave the zipper facing outside, and then encase the clothes. When rolling up the clothes, the zipper cannot be folded, and the outside of wrappage cannot be pressed by other things.

? If there is no packing, you can hang the clothes well and keep it be open. When hanging the clothes, you shall try your best to reduce tensile force of rock rail to avoid deformation of the zipper.

How to storage waterproof zipper.

1. Rinse both sides of the watertight zipper and brush off any object attached.

2. Store with the zipper completely opened, taking care not to bend it.

3. Do not place any heavy objects on the waterproof zipper.

How to install airtight zippers.

PROCESS OF INSTALLING: The front and the back side of the zipper are ready to be installed and applied on fabric base or with a POLYURETHANE and PVC coating. Both sides are easily glued to a NEOPRENE support or other Rubber Bases.

The following processes are recommended:
GLUING: glues function easily and perfectly. Recommend use black witch Glue for neoprene.  And you can use glue Bostik 2402, which is a high performance Two-Part adhesive and MOD approved. Ideally suited to all Drysuit repairs such as seal, zip and boot replacements and seam taping.

SEWING ON: Stitches must be covered with compatible coating to make the whole set waterproof.

How to Care and Use of Immersion Suits

Hypothermia, the lowering of a person's core body temperature, can be a killer for anyone who works or plays outdoors.

Commercial fishermen working away from shore in cold weather have little chance of survival if they fall overboard or have to abandon a sinking ship. Humans rapidly lose heat in cold water and can die in a matter of minutes.

Immersion suits, or survival suits as they are often called by commercial fishermen, can significantly improve survival time in cold water. These suits are often featured in stories about successful sea rescues. Recognizing that hypothermia is a major factor in lives lost at sea, the U.S. Coast Guard now requires immersion suits on documented vessels operating north of 32 degrees North and seaward of the Coastal Boundary Line.

Notwithstanding any requirements, immersion suits are recognized as an important piece of life saving equipment for all fishermen. To be effective, fishermen must keep their suits in good condition, keep them handy and know how to use them.

Proper care and maintenance of immersion suits will extend their working life and possibly your own. Routine suit inspections should include suit material and function of zippers and inflation hoses.

  1. Inspect for holes, tears or signs of wear. Suits used in salt water or in pools should be rinsed thoroughly inside and out with fresh water and turned inside out to dry, but not in direct sunlight. Grease and oil should be removed from suits with mild soap. Do not dry clean.
  2. Check all zippers for smooth operation. Lubricate zippers with a non-petroleum based product such as canning paraffin, beeswax or substance recommended by the manufacturer.
  3. Air bladders provide extra buoyancy and are vitally important in keeping the head out of water when lying horizontally in the water. At least once a year the bladder and inflation hose should
  4. Suit repairs are critical and should be made by the manufacturer or a technician experienced in repair of wet suits. Do not tamper with the suit by adding a pocket or changing design, both these actions could cause your suit to lose its Coast Guard approval rating.
  5. Store your suit in an accessible and dry place. Suits should be rolled and stowed in their bags (Figure 1) with the zippers open and zipped up one inch from the bottom. Lubricate snaps and zippers on the bag.

Your immersion suit works properly only when you are wearing it in the water. New safety regulations for documented vessels that operate beyond the boundary lines or with more than 16 people, require monthly drills and instructions for donning immersion suits. First attempts can be awkward and exhausting but with practice you should succeed in getting into a suit in one minute or less. Practice seated donning of suit. This will be the most convenient methods in actual high sea, emergency situation. The following is the instructions for practice seated donning of an Immersion Suit (Figure 2):

STEP 1. Roll suit out on deck and sit on it. Insert your legs into suit using plastic bags to make it easier. Leave on boots and other clothing for insulation and protection in the water.

STEP 2. Place non-dominant arm into suit first (lefties-right and righties-left). Pull hood over head with free hand.

STEP 3. Place dominant arm in last. Pull the zipper up with care and secure flap over your face.

STEP 4. Make sure that all straps and hoses are secure to avoid being snagged or injured. Do not inflate air bladder until you are in the water.

A training variation on this procedure would be to try putting the suit on in the water. Sit on top the suit and slide in one leg at a time. Next insert one arm, put hood over head and then the other arm. Your suit may now be filled with water but your body heat will warm it up.

As of September 15, 1991, the Coast Guard requires all suits to be marked with 31 square inches of retro-reflective material Tape I and II. This will improve your visibility and chances of being picked up. All Coast Guard Approved suits come with the correct amount of retro-reflective tap and should not need any additional. A whistle and strobe light (as required on ocean going vessels) will also help. Suits must be equipped with a Coast Guard Approved PFD light which should be attached to the shoulder area, and have an up-to-date power supply. Suits must also be marked in "block capital letters" with (a) the vessel name, (b) the name of owner of the suit, or (c) the name of the person to whom the suit is assigned. Check with manufacturer for proper paint or magic marker for your suit.

For proper functioning, be sure your suit fits properly. Check the seams, equipment and fit in your monthly drills. Make repairs immediately. Your life could depend on it.

How to Repair a Dry Suit Zipper

Keeping your dry suit dry is impossible if your zipper does not close properly and allows water to leak inside. If you don't have any sewing experience, replacing a zipper on a dry suit can be a very costly procedure. Before you attempt to have the zipper replaced, you can try a few products to repair the zipper by removing unwanted dirt and salt particles. For multi-purpose dive suits, you can also apply a zipper lubricant to ensure the zipper moves as it should.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a zipper cleaner and lubricant for use on wet and dry suits.

    • 2

Unzip the zipper and brush generous amounts of the solution onto the zipper.Wipe off any excess cleaner. You should see a difference in the color of the zipper as particles and dirt are cleaned off.

    • Zip and unzip the zipper a few times so the cleaner and lubricant is evenly distributed.
    • 5

Apply a multi-dive lubricant if you dive in a variety of conditions. This product should be applied sparingly, like chap stick, onto the teeth of the outer zipper.
